Social software can generate powerful networks - from simple individual actions that help create an 'architecture of participation', to links that connect people for a common purpose. Weblogs, wikis, social bookmarking and tagging (so-called Web 2.0 tools) have all emerged as powerful collaborative tools, but their greatest transformational potential exists within companies and organisations that embed them into their learning strategies. This workshop will review the best ideas and innovative tools and apply them to solving the real world needs of learning environments in organisations.
This workshop will examine the rich world of games in learning. The session will explore how games are being used in Education Queensland to enrich, engage and stimulate learning. The philosophy behind the Games approach will be examined as well as many practical strategies of implementing a games program in an educational environment.
The workshop will investigate the new capabilities of a number of videostreaming applications and discuss the following aspects:
The Natives are Podcasting: We Immigrants Need to Catch Up! This workshop will explore the ever expanding world of podcasting (both listening to and production of) in school based education today. This 21st century medium is a great way to engage students with learning, using technology they use in their everyday lives. Participants will have time to have a hands-on exploration of a range of podcasts in education.
Following on from Workshop 1, participants will create a learning landscape with social software that fosters collaborative learning in corporate or education environments. Participants will learn how to set-up a blog (or work with an existing one), create a wiki environment, manage content aggregation through RSS feeds, develop networked research tools like Del.icio.us, and create a shared photo space with Flickr.
Participants will need access to a valid email account (probably through web-based mail). There are no pre-requisite levels of digital literacy required for this workshop - however attendance at workshop 1 will provide the foundation knowledge to inform the structure of your learning landscape.
